6 Trends you’ll Fall in Love with This Summer
By Jean Airoldi
I can’t narrow it down to just one colour – so many shades are hotter than ever this summer!
Yellow’s a strong contender, but let’s face it : it’s not the easiest colour to pull off. Red is still as popular as ever, but it’s closely followed by pink in all of its iterations – from pastel to fucshia.
All eyes on the shoulders (2)
They’re are all the rage this summer, as proven by the abundance of Brigitte Bardot-inspired tops that show off both shoulders. There’s also a slew of asymmetrical tops that only reveal one of them. We’re also noticing a lot of volume toward the shoulders and intricate details on the sleeves, which tend to be more loose-fitting at the bottom.
Sheer as can be (3)
Show off your subtle side by layering light, sheer fabrics over opaque, tightly woven pieces. Organza and tulle always add a touch of feminity, but if you’re you’re aiming for a sportier look, go for mesh.
Florals OR Flower Power (4)
Flowers are in bloom, from your garden to your closet! Floral prints, whether small and delicate or big and bold, are a must this season. Flowers are the ultimate feminine print and complement almost every silhouette. Switch up floral patterns and colours to give your look a romantic, tropical or rock and roll edge. Style experts can even make a bold move and mix similar prints or even contrasting patterns, like checkered and striped pieces.
Bohemian vibes (5)
This summertime look is perfect for Osheaga enthusiasts. Fringes, pleats, denim and maxi dresses are the pillars of this 70s-inspired aesthetic. Don’t forget accessories – you name it, you wear it! Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, hoops, the oh-so-classic fanny pack and, of course, tinted sunglasses. Take your pick!
Black and white (6)
Sure, colour may be taking the front seat this summer, but black and white keep surprising us by constantly adjusting themselves to the most current trends. In a structured cut, they’re chic as can be! Here’s a new twist this season: add a brightly-coloured accessory to give a contemporary twist to this timeless pairing.
