The “In-Between” Season
by Jean Airoldi, designer & stylist
I don’t know if you’re like me, but after the crazy heat we had this summer, I’m almost glad that fall has finally started!
As the mercury slowly but surely dips, it’s time to adjust your wardrobe and add in-between-seasons clothing that will allow you to take on the ever-changing weather.
The wool sweater
It should be your go-to whenever you need to cover up on chillier nights. Whether you pick a vest or a cardigan, you can wear this fall must-have on its own or as an extra layer whenever the temperature calls for a coat. Also, the long cardigan is now a staple for any wardrobe – it’s office-appropriate, but also perfect for the weekend when paired with jeans and a t-shirt.
Between the jacket and the poncho lies the cape. It’s the perfect attire as days get colder. Just throw it on over a button-down, a dress, or even a turtleneck. You’ll be as comfortable as can be!
A classic! It’s all the rage this year, especially if it’s covered in animal prints and squares that give it a distinguished twist. You can also perk up a somber jacket with bright-coloured accessories. Androgynous silhouettes are very in right now, so pick a willowy cut.
Taken straight from the athletic wear rack, the single-layer parka will give your look a casual edge. It’s the best garment to protect yourself from the wind and the rain, which are inevitable in the fall. It usually comes with a hood, but the models we have a special affection for are baggy and long, reach down to the knees, are cinched at the waist and have huge pockets. We love pieces that are both trendy and practical!
The down jacket
Everyone loves down jackets for their instant warmth and enveloping effect. This year, pick a model that’s big enough to layer over thick sweaters, knits or even a wool jacket.
It’s back in force to help you brave the coldest temperatures in style! You can get it in short or long hair, in a long or shorter cut. And hey, why not go with a bright colour? It’ll make you shine, even on the darkest days of the season.
